          ATTENTION PARENTS!!!
        LET'S UNPLUG OUR KIDS!!

    The week of April 19th through April 25th is "TURN YOUR TV OFF WEEK".  This event takes place every April and September where people all over the world make a conscious decision to turn off their TV's for the entire week (or at least for a few hours every night).  Here is an interesting fact:  Americans watch an estimated 151 hours of TV per month!  That does not even include the hours spent on the computer or playing video games!

    The aim of this event is to reduce the amount of TV we watch and to focus on activities that watching TV displaces, such as reading, creativity, productivity, and healthy physical activity.
 

    The Valley View Elementary PTA would like you to turn off your TV and to fill up that time doing something totally different!  Here are some suggestions for different types of activities you can do with your family instead of watching TV:

*Reading
*Puzzles/Crossword Puzzles
*Crafts
*Drawing/Coloring
*Playing Outside
*Baking/Cooking
*Listening to Music/Dancing/Singing/Play an Instrument
*Gardening
*Bike Riding
*Board Games
*Volunteering 

    So, please make a conscious effort to turn off your TV and spend some quality time with your family today and every day!!
